Sally and I love to be given the opportunity to support other new businesses and business persons just getting started, because that used to be us just a short 3 years ago. For those of you familiar with the 3/50 Project, we're HUGE on this concept..(read about it on our sidebar), small businesses are worth supporting and desperately need your support too!
When Sally told me about this new gal that was just getting started in her candy business, I wanted to share her story. And by the way...her candy is fabulous..and it's for sale in the shop too! I'm quite partial to the coffee chocolates!
So, I'd like to introduce you to Alesha....
My name is Alesha Magallanes. For the last 3 years, I've been a full time student and a single mom. In May, I happily married my wonderful husband Moises and we have 4 beautiful children: Keala (11), Makai (9), Aaliyah (5), and our youngest Dantae Alejandro (16 mos.) In the midst of raising a family and school I've been struggling with the big question: what am I going to do with my life? Well, I'm 35 and the clock is ticking. Endless conversations with my mom during the last year have left me yearning to start my own business, but figuring out where to get the funds has always been the main issue.
One day, an aunt and uncle that I see maybe once a year, called me out of the blue. Oddly enough, my uncle asked me how we were doing financially, and I told him not so good. At this point, my Aunt Marla got on the phone and she told me that they had been praying for some time to help somebody out financially, and my name came to them. As I sat there speechless, she continued to tell me that she and my uncle felt that they wanted to support me financially with some sort of business. She also told me that they didn’t want anything in return for it, and they didn’t want any legal connections to a business. In their minds, they simply wanted to help me start a business out of sheer goodwill. Emotions overwhelmed my mind and heart, and through tears I accepted their offer.
As part of their offer, they told me to do my research, on what I wanted to do and present it to them when I was ready.
So the search began.
My natural inclination was baking as I've been in the cake and baking program at school. My aunt had mentioned to me how much she had enjoyed the mints that I had made myself for my wedding. I started to research mints and chocolate and flavorings and then I went into deep consideration that the market was there, and I would be successful doing this type of industry.
The journey started.
I chose to sell Chocolate Flavored Mints, I named my business enjoyMints, and went full steam ahead with the idea! I got all the information that I needed, and then when it came time I presented it to my aunt and uncle.
The presentation was 45 min. and after giving all that I could give, I asked what they thought of my idea. To my heartbreak, they said they would get back to me..I thought that perhaps I had messed up and pursued the wrong idea. For 2 agonizing days I waited for their call. When the call came they said they had been praying about it, and that they would love to back me financially on this business.
I screamed THANK YOU!
Seven years ago, I was living a very different life without God. Today, I am very blessed to have the opportunity to go and put a 100% into a life changing opportunity. This could effect generations in my family to come. Who knows what will happen.. I just know that I am very blessed from my Father above to give me a chance to succeed. I am walking in the light of the Lord to know that I am and will be taken care of when times get tough. I now go to church full time and pray regularly to thank HIM for the blessings that I have. I have a wonderful husband working two jobs, wonderful children, and a thriving business! In three weeks I have worked very hard and got my product into 15 stores.
I will be successful!
We know you will be too Alesha, congratulations! Lisa ;-)
